Reporting to the Leader of Utilities Infrastructure Planning (UIP), you will support strategic planning and complex analysis for water infrastructure planning related to City and Regional growth. This role is expected to lead/manage major, complex water projects, and review, coordinate and consolidate technical input from utility groups across departments to support key initiatives. Primary duties include:
- Perform various levels of analysis and planning for the water system to support initiatives throughout the planning continuum including Citywide infrastructure planning, Area Structure Plans (ASPs), Growth Applications (GAs), Local Area Plans (LAPs), Outline Plans (OPs) and Development Permits (DPs).
- Initiate, lead and manage water capital projects including preparing business cases, stage-gating documents, constructions agreements and technical handovers to the Utilities Delivery group or the Project Development group.
- Coordinate with delivery and planning teams to ensure water capital infrastructure is planned and delivered to support growth and change.
- Lead and contribute to committee and council reports on matters related to utilities infrastructure planning.
- Enhance practices, standards, and procedures for infrastructure planning for the water service line and provide technical support for major initiatives (i.e., Fire Flow Strategy project).
- Lead and/or support communications with internal and external partners like Calgary Fire Department, Development Engineering, Utilities Delivery, Water Services Operations, Building Industry Land Development (BILD) and other interested parties.
- Provide technical mentoring and guidance to intermediate and junior staff on water network theory and practice.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
- Strong technical knowledge and/or expertise of water supply and distribution systems is required.
- Advanced water network modeling skills (i.e., InfoWater) are required.
- Strong project management skills will be considered an asset.
